The Bible's Promise of a Resurrection

We're trying to get back into our routine since the upset of coping with the death of Richard’s mom. All your cards and e-mails were very touching to us and greatly appreciated. We are sincerely grateful that our business enables us to know so many caring people! Her illness and subsequent death came quite suddenly, however we are so glad that Richard was able to be with her during her last hours. Sometimes it doesn’t work out that way--however, Cheryl knows it meant a lot to her to be with her mother when she died three years ago. And we realize that many of you have dealt or are dealing with similar issues, coping with illness and/or the loss of beloved family members.

We have found immeasurable comfort during these times of great loss from our ongoing study of God’s Word the Bible. We hope that these scriptures will explain our beliefs on this subject:

Sometimes when someone we love dies, especially when a young person dies, things just don’t seem to make sense. The Bible explains that God did not originally intend for humans to die. He created the first human couple to live forever in an earthly paradise, and they would die only if they deliberately disobeyed his instructions. (Genesis 1:28; 2:15-17; 3:19 and Romans 5:12)

Secondly, the Bible clearly teaches something quite different than what is taught in most religions....that death is the absence, and opposite of life. (Romans 6:23, Ezekiel 18:4) It shows that death is a state of total unconsciousness similar to sleeping. (Ecclesiastes 9:5, and Psalms 146:3, 4)

Thirdly, Almighty God not only has the power but also the desire to restore life to those who have fallen asleep in death. His son Jesus Christ promised this and demonstrated it by resurrecting his friend Lazarus who had been dead for four days! Jesus showed on a small scale what will happen on earth under God’s Kingdom government! (John 5:28, 29, Acts 24:15, and John 11:11-44)

There is much more evidence that these scriptures are worthy of our confidence....but this is a brief outline of what we have learned by a careful study of the Bible. If any would like more information, please feel free to call or e-mail us. Another way to get additional information on scriptural topics is to go to – watchtower.org
